How to Activate Your Xfinity Internet Modem at xfinity.com/activate

Hey there! Got a new Xfinity Internet plan and modem? Let me walk you through how to get that baby up and running. I’ll cover the two ways to activate your service – online and through the Xfinity app. Either way, it only takes a few minutes.

Online Activation at xfinity.com/activate

Just head to xfinity.com/activate and you’ll see this screen:

If you have the Xfinity app, go ahead and use that. Otherwise click “here” to get started.

You can verify your account either with:

  • Your mobile phone number
  • Your Xfinity ID and password

I prefer using my phone number – just get the one-time passcode texted to you and enter it. Easy peasy!

Once your account is verified, your modem will automatically configure itself. Give it 5-10 minutes and don’t unplug it!

When the lights stop blinking, you’re all set to connect your devices.

Xfinity App Activation

If you want to activate your modem through the app instead:

  1. Launch the Xfinity app and sign in
  2. Tap “OK” if it asks for camera access
  3. Locate the QR code on your modem and scan it with your phone camera
    • If that doesn’t work, enter the 12-digit CM MAC number instead
  4. Follow the steps to:
    • Place your modem
    • Connect the coax cable
    • Power it up
    • Name your WiFi network
  5. Review your WiFi name, password, etc and tap “Confirm”

It will take a few minutes to finish activating. Then you can connect your devices to your new WiFi!

Pro Tip: If you replaced an existing Xfinity modem, devices that were already connected will reconnect automatically.

What’s In Your Self-Install Kit

Your Xfinity Internet self-install kit includes:

  • Getting started guide
  • Customer privacy info
  • xFi wireless gateway (modem)
  • Power and coax cables
  • Ethernet cable

And that’s everything you need to get up and running! Now do you see why they call it self-install? Super simple.

Let me know if any other Xfinity activation questions come up. Happy surfing!
