What is Straight Talk?
Straight Talk is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO). This means Straight Talk does not operate its own cell towers. Instead, it purchases access from major carriers like Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T to provide cell phone service. As an MVNO, Straight Talk is able to offer prepaid, no-contract plans and bring your own device(BYOD) plans at competitive prices.
What You’ll Need to Activate Your Device
Before starting the activation process, make sure you have the following available:
- Your new Straight Talk phone, tablet, or SIM card
- The IMEI or MEID number located on a red activation sticker on your device box (needed to activate service)
- A Straight Talk service plan (if not purchased already)
- The SIM card number is using Bring Your Own Device (found on your SIM or packaging)
Additionally it helps to have:
- Your billing zip code
- A debit/credit card if you need to purchase a service plan
- Account login details if you already have a Straight Talk account

Ready to activate? Follow these simple steps:

On your computer or mobile device, visit the Straight Talk activation website at straighttalk.com/activate

Click Activate next to the option for Straight Talk Phone.

Choose if you want a new phone number or wish to transfer an existing number.
- If going with a new number, enter your zip code and choose whether to activate using the physical SIM or digital eSIM.
- If transferring your number, enter it and complete the porting process.

Provide your device’s IMEI/MEID number and agree to the Terms.

Purchase a service plan or enter your existing PIN if you already have one.

Log into or create your Straight Talk account.
That’s it! Turn your device off and back on to connect to the network.
Activating Your Own Phone or Tablet on Straight Talk
Did you bring your own GSM unlocked phone or tablet to use on Straight Talk? The activation process is nearly the same:
- First make sure your device is compatible with BYOD plans.
- Insert your Straight Talk SIM card and visit straighttalk.com/activate.
- Click Keep Your Own Phone/Tablet.
- Choose whether to transfer your number or get a new one.
- Provide your SIM card number and device IMEI when prompted.
- Purchase a service plan if you haven’t already.
